The heat. The heat. Something about warm weather drives you to soul music. It is difficult to find the real deal these days. Here is the real thing. Deep soul music of the old school.
13 tracks of quality featuring something rarely heard these days - a horn section. Impassioned vocals and a fine choice of material, including Elvis Costello's "Allison", make this set stand out from the crowd. Charles Walker may have been gone from view for a while (his first recording was released in 1959 after all) but this 2003 set showed that he had lost nothing. His voice is that of a soul legend and his confident delivery is a delight. If you are a fan of the Stax sound then this CD will make you very happy indeed.
It is not often you hear proper soul music these days. This CD is a reminder of days gone by and we should all be grateful that music like this is still being produced. A true soul survivor.
