It’s summer again and retro is, once more, the new sound of today with Kit Major revisiting those muscular punk American style sounds of the past to give her EP “Miss Ego” its motivational power. After all, there’s nothing wrong with getting your point across whilst making some proper old school noise.
There are certainly some sharp edged lyrics in the five songs that make up this EP yet it is the omnipotent guitars that leave the lasting impression. They never stop yet, with that said and even in the most frenetic moments of potential mall destruction, the control is always present and correct between the frets. Kit Major, to her credit, spices her vocals with as much attitude as one woman can muster to keep up with that plethora of power chords and she pretty much pulls it off.
“Miss Ego” is not a soundtrack to catharsis. There is substance in the words but the increased heartrate aligned with the excessive volume necessary to enjoy these songs would undoubtedly give any therapist cause for concern. So, play loud and enjoy. I did.
