Have you ever wondered what would happen if indie pop grew up and got a job but just can’t get the cardigan wearing quirkiness out of its system? Yes? Then look no further than “The As Far As We Can Get EP” by Plastic Bubble.
Time has filtered out the cuteness inherent to indie pop but that determinedly lo-fi approach has not been lost when the clocks went forcibly forward. The sound quality here won’t stretch the resolution of your expensive hi-fi to anywhere near its limit yet it is fair to say that these songs will not be found lacking in the endearing characteristics of a nearly finished demo with the almost oblique lyrics taking a reasonably regular turn into a rather more world weary, and probably weather beaten, degree of discontent.
If the mainstream is not your chosen landing zone then Plastic Bubble will likely provide you with a most reasonable degree of satisfaction as you investigate what might best be called the left field next to the shopping mall that closed last summer and it is to be hoped that Plastic Bubble will continue to plough their own furrow and produce their own individual musical crop.
Available from Bandcamp and the usual digital places.
