What the world needs now is love sweet love. No? How about, instead, a compilation of sounds from somewhere probably underground where all concerned most likely have an aversion to sunlight and, hopefully, any sort of gainful employment? That would be the artists performing on the compilation going by the catchy name of “GIVE/TAKE Group Exhibition 006”.
These twelve examples of the more industrial, verging on manic, approach to making music are all from the roster of Los Angeles/Minneapolis label GIVE/TAKE and none of them could really ever be described as the very epitome of subtlety. From the full on metallised electro rock of Grave Generator through the adrenaline fuelled hardcore techno of JK FLESH or MONRELLA to the downright distortion worship of KPT, this not the kind of music to accompany meditation. There are, of course, further stylistic variations available with Cellmod and HVIRESS – my personal favourite - taking the listener off into a world of dark cabaret but, make no mistake, nothing here is suitable for working on your tan. It is always nice, however, to get the opportunity to use big words like dystopian and disparate and those particular words do seem eminently suitable as a simplistic description for this compilation
I am reasonably sure that no fluffy bunnies or cuddly kittens were harmed during these recording and, with that in mind, it is fair to say that there is much to commend in this compilation. As with any compilation, styles vary but all that you might hear has the advantage of sounding nothing like Sabrina Carpenter, So, if mascara is your thing and you have never been afraid of the dark then it is highly probable that you will something to please your ears on “GIVE/TAKE Group Exhibition 006”.
