I like a bit of indie pop in the morning. It smells like woolly sweaters and Ugg boots to me. You know what I mean. Music that verges on the minimalist in presentation. Music that seems downright fey when compared to the processed and maximised outputs of the corporate sponsored dream team. Music that still has the personal touch like it might mean more to the person making it than it might do to you. Music like “Planète Saint-Michel” by Sasha Fleury.

Now, I have no idea who Sasha Fleury is or are– other than he is (or they are), of course, French - yet this album - on cassette naturally – is about as far from an effects chain extravaganza as you can get these days. None of these songs seems fully formed and that is, perhaps, their primary appeal. Sasha Fleury and his (or their) collaborators bring a more naturalistic approach to all that they do and that, in consequence, allows an endearing fragility to escape and thus enchant your ears.Nothing is forced and all these seven songs just seem to happen as if part of some spell to distract you from reality.

“Planète Saint-Michel” has the appearance of indie pop of old but with the addition of a, rather understated, dose of French style and Sasha Fleury makes it happen just like it should.

Available from Bandcamp on cassette (an edition of only 50 copies) and from the usual digital places.
