It’s time for another foray into the wonderful world of instrumental music of the here and now with todays’ discovery being the self-titled album by Canadian trio En Route, Boys.

Whilst not actually ambient, it is clear from the outset that the creation of an atmosphere is the core intent of this trio and, whilst being not nearly so reliant on synthesisers as the more hardcore proponents in that particular genre, fans of music to occupy the mind whilst pondering greater things will find value in the music contained in this album. Ears in search of more than just background music may also find some satisfaction here with more organic elements such as electric guitar and saxophone elevating many of these songs – if they should be considered as such – to the level of a soundtrack cue for a film that would actually be worth seeing with “Jésus, Boxer”, in particular, just begging to be the companion piece for a montage.

En Route, Boys - Alexandre Gariépy, Marc-Antoine McMullen, and Clément Desjardins – stay firmly on the accessible side of the street with this album so, even if your musical tastes are either mainstream or way out towards the leftfield, your ears will not be offended by anything that you hear.
