Live albums do not seem to be as commonplace these days as they used to be so, despite a tag line that went “eight songs in fifteen minutes”, it was with a degree of intrigue that I pushed the button on “Live Raccoons Inside” by Trash Panda Go Kart.
Trash Panda Go Kart - Selena Kane & Zinnia Su - are new to my ears and they proved to be rather refreshing. Don’t get me wrong. If you are looking for lyrical dexterity and musical virtuosity then this duo will likely disappoint. However, if you value a rather more organic – some might justifiably even say untidy - approach to making music then Trash Panda Go Kart have all the quirky half songs that you would want to hear when it is raining outside and the bar is open. I’m not sure why this duo have a minor obsession with raccoons but, as it is my belief that raccoons are underrepresented in songs from the rock pantheon, it was nonetheless pleasing to note that Trash Panda Go Kart were making the effort to be more inclusive.
“Live Raccoons Inside” is an untidy album yet that is easily forgiven as Trash Panda Go Kart sound like they are actually having fun and that is, in itself, quite infectious. Not many albums make me smile these days. This one did.
Available from Bandcamp and also from the usual digital places.
