There are questions that need answers. Questions like how much noise can a two piece rock band from Glasgow make? That question is answered on Velvetbomb’s EP “Vengeance Slayer”. The answer, by the way, is a lot.

If you like to hear your hard rock being done the hard rock way then Velvetbomb will likely be the band for you. Despite being a two man train, they keep their six songs rolling along on the rails all the way to the end of the line with this EP. The guitars are always well to the fore and they duly riff up all that is before and behind them with those forever pounding drums reminding you why ear protection might be a good thing. Things are kept entirely conventional over these six songs and that timeless approach allows Velvetbomb to work up enough of a head of steam to get that blood moving through your veins. That said, and just when you think that will never hear again, Velvetbomb take a sentimental left turn and break out the acoustic guitar for “My Dark Angel” to round things up. I knew there was a heart in there somewhere.

Honest and solid as the proverbial rock, “Vengeance Slayer” provides all the proof your beer addled and now bleeding ears will need that Velvetbomb can keep you company all the way into dawn’s early light.
