With so much that is artificial in music today, it makes a pleasant change to listen to something that sounds like it might just possibly be real and “The Friday Night Detour” by Side Project Skip does indeed sound real.

Side Project Skip – aka Chris Dickscheid – must be of an age to remember when things were not quite as depressing as they are today and these four songs reflect the sentiments of those who have seen things go from dreams to worse. That isn’t to say that Side Project Skip is likely to depress you for he hasn’t forgotten that, while it was better back then, music has, and always will, make the world a better place and, while his lyrics often suggest loss and self-reflection, he also demonstrates a certain joy in his reappropriation the musical cues of those days gone by.

“The Friday Night Detour” is an honest collection of songs and, if your mood moves you towards looking backwards, then Side Project Skip might well please your ears.
