What the world needs now is some Russian space rock. Really? Well, why not? The times they are a-changing and the past is the new future and all our freedom has now been proven to be a dream but tomorrow is another yesterday so onwards, therefore, to the appropriately named “Психоделия” by Ciolkowska.

“Психоделия”, as you might well have surmised, is Russian for psychedelia and this album does indeed meander amiably in the style of early seventies rock with much in the way of languorous guitar and lyrics that seem more akin to freeform poetry than the three minute pop song. All the songs are in Russian so no idea what that the lyrics are actually about but, given the genre, there is undoubtedly going to be some philosophical ramblings on hand to inspire the minds of those with the tongue for this. You don’t, however, need to speak the words of any language to recognise that Ciolkowska play with the fluency that comes with both practice and a clarity of collective musical vision.

It is no surprise, therefore, that this album flows so well and, should you feel the urge to let the world go and instead set off on a journey through a land where the clouds are coloured with purple existentialism then this album will be a suitable soundtrack.

The album is available from Bandcamp.
