When all is said and done, it is all about the song and, even within the necessarily rigid constructs of the electro pop genre, the quality of a song will always shine through. So, without further ado, or undue adoration, on to the songs that make up the “MAD” EP by Laoise.
I was going to remark – somewhat sarcastically, of course - something along the lines of Laoise having a finger of the pulse of the modern day music business such is the processed perfection of these four songs but I think, on reflection, that would be rather unfair. Undoubtedly, her sound is that of computer powered conventionality but that is surely just the product of the technology as her words and her voice have an organic and endearing quality to them that is almost unfashionable in these permanently overcast days. Perhaps because of this positive and uplifting feel, the end result is that you end up listening to these songs over and over again and that, as they say, is a job well done.
Best song? In my humble opinion, “Seriously?”.
The Verdict? Uplifting and commercial. Good things will happen for Laoise.
