It’s been a while since the practice of looping was fashionable but, as in so many things, patience is a virtue. Miss Irenie Rose, for it is she, knows the value of patience and she uses her persistence to add that certain je ne sais quoi to the songs on her “Peat Bog” EP.
Many will quite rightly regard “Big Bad Wolf” as her signature song and the looped, KT Tunstall style, simplicity provides a more than suitable background for her charming voice. “Decided”, and for that matter “Turquoise”, is a more conventionally arranged and performed song that ticks all the boxes for a folk flavoured festival favourite while
Ms. Rose’s charm carries “Space Rage” into a dimension of obliqueness that suggests that she is playing, at least for the present, her style cards close to her chest.
Her best is undoubtedly yet to come but “Peat Bog” demonstrates, at the very least, that her heart is true.
