There are a lot of good bands hailing from Brooklyn so we must assume that the water there must be potent stuff. Potent enough to power a time machine? Perhaps for 1 More Animal draw heavily on the past for their EP “Springboard”.

That’s no bad thing either as that means that 1 More Animal have more than their fair share of hooks to catch your attention.  “Follow Me To Bed”, for example, is  one of those songs that must surely have been born  on the proverbial tour bus – its even got whistling on it – and the sentiments expressed remain as valid then as they would have back in the day. It’s a tiny dancer, make no mistake about it.

“Lemonade” stays in the same time period and turns off on to the road to V8 supercharged pomp rock land.  AS a song, it might well reference times gone by but, again, that does not distract from its twisted relevance.  The shadows, they say, are everywhere even in the dodgy edits.  There is even a bit of fun – and fun that Quentin Tarantino would like – in the lapsed into Spanish “Behind My Back” that takes us on an offbeat walk on the wild side.
“Lil in Love” speaks to the sensitive side of 1 More Animal phasing its way into a warm groove that moves neatly from the speakers to your heart but with the underlying discomfort of obsession powering it instead of tried and tested mushy sentimentality. 1 More Animal is the kind of band that knows that the song is everything and that, my fruends, is just how it is supposed to be.

The EP is available from Bandcamp.
