You know it getting to be a bit like Christmas when Sofia Talvik releases her free festive offering. This year, it is a song called “One Last Wish For Christmas” and it is one of those songs that has a near perfect balance of sentimentality and realism.
The words she sings speak of the reflective nature of life asking of the old if they remember a lost love – one never to be forgotten or ever likely to be - whilst under the multi coloured illumination of the festive season. For those of us who still have a heart, this is a message that is not limited to those dark days in December and regret, as Ms Talvik quite rightly reminds us, is something that time or season does not ever dilute.
Perhaps it is true that you can’t choose who you love and that you can only choose who you spend your life with but I like to think that there will always be a happy ending. I have to admit that Sofia Talvik, however, has once proved her mastery of the art of the song writing here and even the most cold hearted reviewer in the world would have to agree with that.
The song is available for download from Bandcamp.
