Maybe it is a vinyl thing or maybe it is impending old age but I had to hold back the tears of sentimentality when I dropped the needle into the gold vinyl groove of this Missing Monuments’ single. Headed up by “(I’m Gonna) Love You Back To Life”, that admittedly does feel like a proto Weezer song, you get three proper pop songs just like they used to make way back when they used to make things like that.
Following that little pop nugget up is an edgy little bit of post punk sugar called “Bleed” that, with little more than a chant to its name, nonetheless manages to charm and make you want to eat ice cream. Similarly, “Another Girl” slaps the power chords in best American punk style around a bit in its distinctly successful attempt to be yesterday.
So there you have it. King Louie adopts an alias and proves that he is all fluffy on the inside and you can’t mark a man down for making songs that you can actually sing along with. What more could you reasonably want (besides free beer, of course)?
