And then there was Lykke Li. Last seen by the Bluesbunny performing live in a basement in Glasgow, she gave a determined show of musical quirkiness. Sort of mainstream but sort of eclectic at the same time.

Likewise, "Breaking It Up" gives us more of the same. Her vocals have an appealing fragility something like Clare Grogan would have sounded if only our Clare could sing. The rhythms are infectious and they have this oddball charm. Perhaps oddball charm is not really the right words. The music is cleverly assembled and is easily radio and dance floor friendly but the best thing about this song is the vibrancy of it all. Lykke Li sells it to you without really trying. She's like that girl at art school that you always fancied. She isn't the kind of girl that you take home to mother but she's all you will ever want. Except for beer, of course.

No need to waste much time on the flipside however. The remix of "Everybody but Me" turned out to be an exercise on how much you can squeeze on a side of seven inch vinyl without actually getting to the musical point.

By the way, I think that I may be in love…
