Secret Season sound just like the kind of band that you might imagine would exist in France with Mark Moogalian and Isabelle Risacher becoming a sort of mini cottage industry relentlessly releasing albums of low key songs that seem to epitomise all that is both musical and laconic.

“Love is the Only Game in Town” is their fourth album and it continues to plough the same unassuming furrow that produced their previous three. There is a pleasing quirkiness to the proceeding with songs like “When I Saw Jesus” hiding a rather oblique reflection on modern life behind apparent lyrical simplicity. “Linen White”, likewise, seems playful in a sixties pop kind of way yet it has certain hypnotic quality that draws you into its shadows.

Less is more seems to be the motto for Secret Season and “Love is the Only Game in Town”, despite Secret Season diligently avoiding shining the spotlight on themselves, is an album whose appeal grows with time.
