So what’s spinning around in my head today? It’s a simple question with a metaphysical answer - Laura St. Jude. She is, after all, from dear old Glasgow and yet her vinyl single “I Can’t Stop Loving You” is on the respected German Off Label imprint so something special must have happened. Explaining the happening is not that easy however.

Sure enough, “I Can’t Stop Loving You” is a slow paced song of the heart, swathed in the reverb of the past, downbeat and dressed in black. It’s a hypnotic walk through the landscape of love, a sonic meander if you like, with finger snapping transitions between the French and English languages illuminating Ms. St Jude’s inner torch.

“Yours To Destroy” follows a similarly melancholy path echoing in an emotional tunnel with little more than a, low on Prozac, shuffling guitar to keep her voice from fading into the shadows. It’s the kind of song that needs a cigarette to keep it company.

Her approach to a song might well be low key but there is more going on here than meets the ears and Laura St. Jude is thus likely to intrigue you more than you might at first think. There are, methinks, greater powers at work here.
