With their EP “Who Put Bella in the Witch Elm?”, The Wychbury Cartel, a band from the middle of Englandshire, show an obvious enthusiasm for those mellow midrange rock grooves that existed way back in the seventies with “Obsession with Fire” drawing on folk rock to get going before rapidly growing up with some spirited, if ragged, guitar.

“Need To Say” follows a similar path on its journey to the end of the ear friendly road, although this time with a short diversion to the hard rock motorway, and “Call Me” ably demonstrates that this band can also do a nice line in eloquent pop song writing.

A little bit more polish would not have gone amiss but it remains a fact that The Wychbury Cartel are on the right track here.

Their “Who Put Bella in the Witch Elm?” EP is available from Bandcamp.
