Now this is the kind of independent music that we shall be grateful for. You might never have heard of Buzz Holland – and indeed I had not – but he has the spirit so often found missing in his younger contemporaries on the road to success.

There are a variety of stylistic variations on the mainstream, from blues to country, to be found on this album but all are executed with a worthy mix of musical skill and good humour. “No Right Woman and “Call It Magic”, in particular, flow with such ease that you might surmise that they are the work of a man who has had success in the music business.

21 songs on one album is a lot for any songwriter and there are, in truth, a few slips into mediocrity along the way but the solid performances make this album an easy and likeable listen overall.
