The ever prolific PNDC – from Serbia – and Housework – from Greece – release yet another EP under their combined trading name of Hospital Neon. “Cheap Flowers” is, however, somewhat different from its predecessors.

The inclusion of a Roxy Music cover – “Love Is The Drug” – is perhaps a clue to the plan behind this diversion from their usual twisted ambient style and there’s a pseudo rock feel to most of the songs on this WEP but it is, most certainly, the feel of the heyday of the rock meets pop in the style coliseum of the seventies. With but a sweep of the ringmaster’s cape, the drums thud mercilessly away in the background, the guitars spin a web of manly riffs and there is more than enough attitude in Housework’s vocals to energise all of polite café society. He truly rolls over the words like an actor relishing his role in centre stage and the title song, in particular, charges along with that positive insistence to artistically impress.

A change in style without a doubt and a most worthy one at that.

This EP is available as a free download from Bandcamp.
