The things that run through my mind&a song by Olivia Newton John called “Have You Ever Been Mellow”. I can’t truthfully remember the tune but I’m sure that it would fit right in with the songs on “Wild Chorus” by Anders & Kendall. Anders Parker (of Varnaline fame) and Kendall Meade (of Mascott fame)&they’re a little bit country and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll you see.
The sparkle in their eyes, their candle in the wind, however, is their voices. The songs seem almost secondary as if they were conceived as mere tableaux with no more purpose than to allow both their voices to intertwine on the underfloor heated dance floor of the post Americana musical reminiscences.
That’s nor to dismiss their lyrical efforts but it is not until “Getting’ Ready” that the lyrics achieve synchronicity with the laidback vocal enchantment that is the key weapon in Anders and Kendall’s arsenal. Following on with “Oh, Love” provides them with a more than readily grasped opportunity to evoke memories of those candlelit past times.
I feel that I might be damning this album with faint praise but this is festival music par excellence.
