There is a time when keeping it simple makes perfect sense and  Finnish  band Kickstart Rockers know how to do just that. Perhaps that doesn’t sound too promising but bear with them for this is a band that, underneath it all, plays with a greater purpose.

All the usual ingredients are there with solid as a rock drumming, pummelled bass, riffing guitars and gruff vocals driving all of these five songs along with style and no small amount of skill. “Redline Boots”, for example, is deserving of being cranked up to the max so that its back to the heyday of rock lyrics can be fully savoured. The icing on the cake, however, are the more theatrical – if no less macho- songs like “Jim & Kim” that growls and howls like southern rock gone bad and the bleak, black and blue “Lonely Morning”.

Kickstart Rockers walk a fine line between giving people what they expect of a hard edged rock band and their - barely concealed - true theatrical nature. If they have the courage of their convictions then they will undoubtedly make their mark.
